In 1993, two officers of Oregon Urban Rural Credit Union (OUR) visited OUR manager Cathleen Byers at her home to ask about $630,000 of missing credit union funds. Sitting at her kitchen table, she behaved in a way they had never seen before, though each h ad known her for more than a decade. After refusing to answer their questions, Byers asked in a childlike voice, “Would you like to see my animals?”
