A new kind of publication

Now that the editorial part of creating Flux has wrapped up, you would think that we're done. But with the advancement of online publications, Flux has been converted into a two part magazine: print and online.

As said before, I am old fashioned when it comes to magazine. I prefer to get my news online -- it's extremely current. Journalists can post stories right as they're happenning. Magazines, on the other hand, must have longevity and therefore, may find it difficult to constantly update their online content. I prefer to hold a magazine in my hand, read the longer articles on a piece of paper and be able to carry them with me wherever I go. However, I think it's smart that Flux is going online. Since we're only an annual publication, our stories have to have an extremely long shelf life and are hard to update. Going online gives us the flexibility to update our stories and add new ones -- as well as multimedia pieces to accompany them.

I probably won't be buying any more Flux issues after I've graduated this year, but it's nice to know that I can simply go to the website to see how the journalism school is progressing and get a fresh take on what students are currently learning.
