Gender Inclusive Housing

by Lisa Kislingbury Anderson last modified 2009-05-27 21:20

The University has decided to make its residence halls more welcoming to non-gender comforming students.

As a former resident assistant and inhabitant of the University's dorms,

I'm elated to hear there will be a gender inclusive hall offered beginning in

fall 2009. I always thought that would be a great option and now it's finally

arrived on our campus.

I hope Jake, who plans to return as an RA, gets placed in the new hall. It's his

first choice and he's been talking about it with me for weeks. Today he'll find

out.

Here's a description of the new hall:

NEW This Year: Gender Equity Hall

Whether you are simply interested in how gender roles shape society or just enjoy living among people of differing genders, you want to live in a community committed to gender equity. Residents of this hall (and only this hall) can choose to room with a student of any gender. This includes same gender roommates, different gender roommates or other gender-identity roommate pairings. Put simply, in this community anyone can choose to share a room with anyone else. Residents of this hall are generally upperclass and returning students. The Gender Equity Hall is on the fifth floor of Carson in Wing B.
